Alternative Mobility GmbH sees itself as a pioneer for new technologies in the fields of mobility, energy, and airborne solutions. With a clear focus on sustainability and future viability, we develop systems that combine ecological responsibility with technical excellence.

Our core business lies in converting diesel buses to fully electric drives. This provides cities and public transport operators with a cost-efficient way to modernize existing fleets and accelerate the transition to zero-emission mobility. With our modular retrofit kits, we ensure that solutions can be flexibly adapted to different bus types and operational profiles.

In addition, we support our partners throughout the entire development process: from the initial concept design, through simulations and digital twins to predict energy demand, efficiency, and operational strategies, all the way to practical implementation and integration into existing systems. Our interdisciplinary team combines engineering, software development, and system integration to deliver customized, future-oriented solutions.

In the energy sector, we develop concepts for smart charging infrastructures, vehicle-to-grid applications, and energy management systems that efficiently link mobility with power grids. 

With this broad technological foundation, we position ourselves as a partner for municipalities, public transport operators, energy providers, and industry players seeking innovative and sustainable approaches to successfully tackle the challenges of urban transformation.

Conversion

AM specializes in converting diesel buses to fully electric drives, thereby making an important contribution to sustainable mobility. By using modern battery technologies, efficient drive systems, and intelligent control solutions, we enable transport operators to modernize existing fleets in a climate-friendly and cost-efficient way. Our approach combines resource conservation with innovative technology to support cities and municipalities in their transition to zero-emission transport systems.

Services

We offer professional engineering services in the field of electromobility and support our clients from concept development through simulations to system integration. With expertise in battery and drive technologies, charging infrastructure, and energy management, we develop customized solutions for sustainable and efficient mobility. We have extensive experience in the development of embedded systems for automotive applications, with a focus on communication and function integration. We are proficient in working with modern vehicle bus systems such as CAN, LIN, and FlexRay, as well as development tools like Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, and MATLAB/Simulink. We have solid knowledge in the use and programming of automotive microcontrollers (MCUs) from leading manufacturers (e.g., Infineon, NXP, ST), taking into account standards such as AUTOSAR and ISO 26262.

Energy technology

Power Electronics

Specialized in the development of control software for power electronic systems, particularly fast-charging stations for electric vehicles and the precise regulation of electric drives. Extensive experience in model-based software development, implementation of charging and communication protocols (e.g., ISO 15118, DIN 70121), and the development of real-time control algorithms for BLDC, ACIM, and PMSM motors. Proficient with embedded software platforms, low-level programming (C/C++), and integration on high-performance microcontrollers and DSPs.

Through our extensive experience in power electronics, the retrofitting of existing systems, and the development of intelligent control software, we have established a solid foundation for the design and implementation of microgrid solutions. Our expertise in programming energy management systems (EMS) enables the optimal coordination of decentralized energy sources, storage systems, and consumers. With modern control and optimization algorithms, we create solutions that increase energy efficiency, enhance supply security, and support grid stability.

Industrial Automation

We offer comprehensive solutions for industrial automation and cloud integration. In the field of automation, we develop and implement complex control systems with PLC programming and modern protocols such as Modbus (RTU/TCP), PROFINET, EtherCAT, and OPC UA. To achieve this, we rely on tools like CODESYS, TIA Portal, and TwinCAT to realize efficient, connected systems in line with Industry 4.0 standards.

In the area of cloud computing, we design scalable and secure architectures for IoT, real-time, and data analytics applications. By using protocols such as MQTT, HTTP/HTTPS, WebSockets, and RESTful APIs, we enable reliable data transmission, device control, and system monitoring even under limited bandwidth conditions. Our solutions are optimized for platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and ensure maximum availability, flexibility, and security.

Innovation and Research

As a forward-looking technology company, we offer a broad range of services in the fields of mobility, energy, and airborne systems. In addition to our core business, we develop innovative solutions within our research and development activities, with a particular focus on drone technologies. We work on new applications in inspection, transport, surveying, and data analysis, supported by state-of-the-art sensors, autonomous flight control, and intelligent software. Our goal is to create added value for industry, infrastructure, and urban spaces through sustainable and efficient technologies.

Alternative Mobility, together with the Drone Competence Center KDS-DronetTEC, is developing an innovative concept for the region. The focus is on advanced technologies such as object recognition, sensor fusion, and artificial intelligence (AI), which open up new possibilities for drone systems. The aim is to create synergies that both strengthen regional infrastructure and enable pioneering applications in the field of airborne technologies.

Support programs

Getting started with electromobility is easier than you might think and is supported by a wide range of subsidy programs from the federal, state and local governments. Since the beginning of 2021, the federal government has been supporting the conversion of diesel buses with up to 80 percent.

Through the cooperation with our partner the Nürnberger Leasing Group we have the possibility to offer you attractive financing options. Together we are there for your project and support you in questions of financing.

Our hydrogen project

Since 2021, AM has been leading a work package in the EU-funded "CoacHyfied" project to convert diesel buses to hydrogen.

The project members of a consortium of 17 partners from all over Europe have taken the goals of the European Green Deal to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 50 % by 2030 and to achieve complete climate neutrality by 2050 as an opportunity to jointly drive forward the development of fuel cell systems for coaches. The European-funded project "Hydrogen fuel cell buses for regional and long-distance transport with energy-optimized drives and cost-optimized design" is supported directly by the European Commission from Brussels.
